What We’re Reading: Podcasting and PR, Listening to Managing Partners and Laughing With Technology
The outlook for 2019 is cautious for law firm managing partners, but technology has provided us with ways to connect with clients and prospective clients in many ways. Small and large businesses and law firms are speaking with their audiences rather than at them. From podcasting to effective PR and trends in colors, we share a few of the interesting articles we are reading.
Podcasting for Brand Loyalty and Awareness
Podcasting is growing in popularity for large and small businesses and law firms. To encourage podcasting at law firms, Furia Rubel has recently written two blogs on this subject: “Podcasts for Law Firms Offers Promising Returns” and “10 Podcasting Tips for Law Firms.” Another podcasting article in the Philadelphia Business Journal recently caught our eye. While podcasting may not be for everyone, “the strategy can pay off…especially in brand loyalty and awareness.” The article notes that instead of having someone talk at you, as in a blog, a podcast allows for a storytelling conversation with different points of view that are instrumental to different aspects of a business. While it’s great to have a growing number of subscribers, the goal of a podcast is to get people talking.
Managing Partners Reveal Outlook for 2019
2018 has been a strong year for law firm revenue growth, but cautious optimism is the outlook for 2019. With the possibility of more economic turmoil over the coming months, the 2018 Pennsylvania Managing Partners Survey reports that law firms expect less growth in revenue and head count. Compared to the 2017 survey, more respondents described their law firm as full service, and 23 percent of respondents are actively seeking a merger, the highest that figure has been in seven years.
A surprising decline in the 2018 survey is that only 69 percent of respondent’s reported they had a marketing budget. “Last year, about 91 percent of respondents reported allocating funds for marketing efforts, compared to 92 percent in 2016.”

3 Steps to Better PR Results
How are you planning to handle your public relations in 2019? A recent article from PR Daily outlines three public relations tactics that are essential for your success in the new year. First, search engine optimization is crucial for success and keeping your content optimized with high-traffic keywords “helps Google register that your content is evocative and relevant for the audience you’re targeting.” Second, expand pitching your stories beyond your traditional media list to influencers like trustworthy bloggers. Third, track your domain authority. Follow up on your media placements and see where people are sharing your content on social media.
The Funny Thing About Technology….
The rapid growth of technology and organizational change can make us want to cry, but the ode to digital transformation in these cartoons left us laughing. We are sure you can relate to them as well. Check out these cartoons by the Marketoonist.
Coloring the World in 2019
Did you know that color has a symbolic meaning? Pantone recently named Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral, “a vivid, warmly saturated shade between pink and orange” as the 2019 Color of the Year (COTY). According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “the COTY choice draws on symbolic meanings and is connected to the world at large, social issues, the pressing stuff in this day and age. Whenever coral appears under the sea, they feed and nourish fish. It’s imperative that we preserve our coral reefs as part of the ecosystem. So that certainly influenced our choice.”
